News Update – August 26

Hi Everyone,

Please remember to send your submissions or ideas in time for next Wednesday’s Open Mic!

Diversity is very much in the news these days, particularly as it relates to race and gender. A very serious problem in many parts of the world

We are all familiar with Cathy Lyn’s mission to carry Diversity in the Actuarial Profession across the globe. Watch some of these presentations on Diversity from Berlin, South Africa, Curacao and cyberspace. Stay tuned for the next installment at our 2020 Annual Conference!

News Update – August 6

Hi Everyone:

Happy Independence Day to all our Jamaican members!

To our Students:

Students sitting SOA Exams

Last month, we announced that the CAA had engaged the SOA to work together towards a solution that ensures that Caribbean actuarial candidates would not be disadvantaged when all SOA examinations are moved to computer-based testing (CBT) in Fall 2020.

We are happy to confirm that a policy has been crafted to strike the correct balance between providing candidates with access to the exam without undue financial and logistical obstacles while providing the appropriate the level of exam security to ensure fairness to all candidates and as well as supporting the validity of examination results.

Formal communication will be published by the SOA with details of the new policy being implemented for Caribbean Students.

We will continue to engage and support the SOA in implementing this initiative.

SOA Exam details may be viewed on their website.

Students sitting CAS Exams

The US Casualty Actuarial Society is moving to Computer Based Testing using Pearson Vue approved sites.  There are such sites in Jamaica and Trinidad.  We would like to know if you or anyone you know is a CAS student in any other Caribbean territory.  We will then work with the CAS on your behalf to see what can be arranged.

More details of CAS’ move to CBT can be read on their website.

COVID-19 Update-May 11

Dear Colleagues,

The IAA Sections/Institut des Actuaires Colloquium, originally scheduled for Paris, has gone virtual!

Sessions have already started! To view the entire programme and to register click here.

View compelling discussions and fulfil your CPD!

The CAA has recently become a member of ActuView, thereby allowing our members free access to all media available on that platform. This includes the Virtual Colloquium as well as archived material.

Since 2019, ActuView regularly collects digital actuarial content for the actuarial community – either broadcast live from international actuarial events, provided as recorded sessions from partners or produced as webcasts by individual experts from the actuarial community. Along with the archives of 2018 and 2019 are many additional contributions from Actuview’s partners.

If you would like access to this vast source of actuarial knowledge please email us and we will send you a unique code. This code allows one person to access ActuView for a year. (If you are a member of an IAA Section or belong to one of the European associations, e.g. AG, you would already have received a code from them).

Please continue to send feedback, links and reports, especially any which might be particularly relevant to the Caribbean.

Remember to check the Resources page on our website for key links.

Thank you.
