The Communication Team hopes that everyone has greeted the New Year in good health. We wish you all a safe 2022 filled with good health and prosperity.

Next week we’ll start sharing highlights of our 2021 Conference, and we have quite a lot of those!

Our AGM, which took place on the 10th December, elected a new Board of Directors.

With the Omicron variant, we are back to alarming increases in total number of cases.

In both Trinidad and Jamaica, this writer knows quite a few people who have gotten COVID-19 though they were fully vaccinated. My opinion is that they dropped their guard with respect to mask wearing, sanitising often and maintaining social distancing. Most of the deaths of people whom I knew in Trinidad were primarily due to their resistance to taking the vaccine and the fact that they had various comorbidities.

Please, we urge you to let good sense prevail. Get vaccinated but continue to follow safety protocols. There will likely be a few more mutations before it becomes relatively harmless.

Also remember, no one – doctors, virologists, scientists, or others- yet know the long-term effects on our health after having COVID-19. The fact that it attacks your lungs suggests that recovery might not mean perfect lung health in the future.

Our COVID-19 Report will be published fortnightly in 2022 with alternate Fridays covering other topics of interest such as Climate Change, ESG investing, Oil and Gas development in the region, and so on.

Please Scroll down to see our usual tables summarising coronavirus data.

What you may have missed over the Holidays:

The International Congress of Actuaries 2023: Bridges to Tomorrow will take place in Sydney, Australia, 28th May-1st June.

The IAA Bursary Congress Fund is available to provide some financial support to certain individuals with preference given to:

• residents of countries with a Gross National Income (GNI) of less than US$22,000 per capita

• individuals who have not received IAA bursaries for previous Congresses, IAA Fund meetings or Section Colloquia, except where repeat participation is considered to be in the best interests of the profession

• individuals who promote the profession and/or lead associations in good standing with their IAA membership criteria (IAA membership dues payments and confirmation forms)

• applicants who convey a serious intent and plan to share what they learned with the profession in their country following the congress, such as (but not limited to) making presentations to members of the actuarial association or to actuarial students.

The bursary application form may be completed here before 15th September 2022.
