COVID-19 Weekly Update – June 4

Dear Colleagues,

We hope you are all staying safe. Remember that vaccines take about two weeks to become effective. Also, one must still practise the COVID-19 protocols. Social distancing, mask wearing and sanitising are all still essential until the virus spread is under control.

We have not seen a significant reduction in new cases but there has been a significant increase in deaths.

COVID-19 Weekly Update – May 28

Dear Colleagues,

For those members who are interested, visit ourworldindata.org. You can select the countries whose data you wish to compare.

Suggested Weekend reading:

We recently came across this unfamiliar website which tracks COVID-19 in 34 Caribbean countries. It appears to have fairly accurate data as the source for each country is linked. We include it as it contains data for some countries which are not easily found at the accepted sources.

COVID-19 Weekly Update – May 21

Dear Colleagues,

We apologise if last Friday’s post was a bit strong on the fear factor. As restricted as we all feel in lockdown, especially when we see easing of restrictions in richer nations, we must continue to exercise caution.

We repeat the link which shows cumulative deaths, hospital resource use, infections and testing, daily deaths, mask use, social distancing for Trinidad and Tobago. Once you are on the link, you can access other countries from the dropdown. We suggest that you take some time and have a look.

It is our opinion that everyone with the opportunity to do so should be vaccinated. However, we do understand that some may opt out for personal or medical reasons.

COVID-19 Weekly Update – May 14

Dear Colleagues,

This can happen anywhere!

Please take the time to go to this link which shows cumulative deaths, hospital resource use, infections and testing, daily deaths, mask use, social distancing for Trinidad and Tobago. There are variants emerging all over, many of which are more infectious. And remember that vaccines are not magic, do not work instantly and do not all have the same efficacy. Think of the SPREAD still taking place in highly vaccinated countries like Chile and the Seychelles.

Dear Colleagues,

Our thoughts are with our members and friends in St. Vincent and the Grenadines following this morning’s eruption of La Soufrière Volcano. Here’s this morning’s Emergency Press Conference and regular updates from CARICOM.

Thanks to President Kyle Rudden for the attached PowerPoint COVID graph analysis for the Caribbean 2021 to date, created from information on Our World in Data.  Unfortunately, the French departments and Dutch territories are not included in available countries. The links included in the ppt can be pasted into your browser and used to get an updated graph at any time.

This presentation will shortly be available on our website.
