We are pleased to announce the formation of a brand-new CAA Committee. Our Climate Change Committee will focus the CAA’s commitment to do all we can to preserve this planet we all call home. As you know, the Caribbean is particularly prone to the effects of global warming and the resultant rise in sea levels, changing weather patterns and other repercussions. We must also rethink our various practice areas to adjust to changes brought about by these problems.
Please join us on 15th July for our online Town Hall to hear more about our plans to tackle this crucial concern. At the Town Hall, we’ll also update you on our involvement with the International Actuarial Association.
Here’s what our colleagues at some of the major associations are doing about this serious problem:
- IFoA Sustainability
- SOA Research Emerging Topics
- CAS Climate Change Resource Library
- CIA Climate Change and Sustainability Resources
- AI Climate Change Blog (Australia)
Pension funds and others handling investments in the UK are paying attention to WHERE they invest their clients’ money, following guidelines of the international Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures.
The New York Times also has a very informative web series, Netting Zero. The latest instalment, takes place on 1st July and featured speakers include Henrietta Elizabeth Thompson, Ambassador of Barbados for Climate Change, Small Island Developing States and Law of the Sea.
